Abstract:
A tetranuclear [{(bbpen)Dy}3CrIII(ox)3] (1) propeller-shaped complex has been synthesized using [Cr(ox)3]3- and high anisotropic [(bbpen)Dy]+ units (H2bbpen = N,N'-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N,N'-(2-pyridylmethyl)ethylenediamine). The magnetic study reveals antiferromagnetic interactions between Cr(III) and Dy(III) metal centers and slow magnetization relaxation through low-lying exchange states in zero field. In contrast, the relaxation process exhibits an energy barrier of 429 cm-1 in an applied external magnetic field, as further confirmed by multireference ab initio calculations. Notably, the value of 429 cm-1 is among the highest energy barriers observed for 3d-4f SMMs under an external magnetic field to date.
