The Professional Nurse01:22

The Professional Nurse

Professional nurses are not limited to bedside care and are taking roles of greater responsibility. A nurse should have a knowledge-based practice, including personal, theoretical, procedural, cultural, and reflexive knowledge. Additionally, nurses must be competent in cognitive, technical, interpersonal, and ethical/legal skills. Some of the best attributes of successful nurses include the following:
Communication skills: These are critical characteristics, especially speaking and listening.
Nursing Interventions II: Selecting and Classifying the Nursing Interventions01:29

Nursing Interventions II: Selecting and Classifying the Nursing Interventions

Creating and executing a nursing diagnosis helps nurses plan care and guide patient, family, and community interventions. They are developed based on a patient's physical evaluation and support measuring the outcomes. It is not recommended to select random interventions throughout the planning process. Instead, consider the following six essential factors when choosing interventions:
Social Foundations of Self I: Play and Game01:24

Social Foundations of Self I: Play and Game

The development of self in children is deeply rooted in social interactions, mainly through stages of play and structured games. These stages, outlined by sociologist George Herbert Mead, illustrate how children progressively learn to understand and adopt social roles, forming a cohesive sense of self. The Play Stage: Imitation and Simple Role-TakingIn the early years of childhood, the play stage is characterized by imitative behavior, where children engage in role-playing based on familiar...
Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.
Section...
Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching I: Assessment and Diagnosis01:24

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching I: Assessment and Diagnosis

The nursing process provides a clinical decision-making framework for patients and families to establish and implement a personalized care plan. Since part of the nurse's duties is to teach patients, the steps of the nursing process are the most effective way to approach instruction. The nursing process and the teaching-learning process are inextricably linked.
It is critical to determine the patient's learning needs during the assessment. Determination of learning needs compounds data from the...
The Scientific Method in Nursing Process01:18

The Scientific Method in Nursing Process

The scientific method provides the foundation for any research. It is the most reliable and objective of all forms of gaining knowledge and guides in applying research-based evidence in practice and conducting future research.
When using research findings to change practice, one must understand the process used to guide a study. The scientific method is a systematic, step-by-step process that supports the data's validity, reliability, and generalizability. As a result, findings can be safely...

Area of Science:

  • Pediatric Nursing
  • Child Health
  • Psychometric Evaluation

Background:

  • Therapeutic play is crucial for pediatric patient care.
  • Assessing nurses' knowledge in therapeutic play is essential for effective implementation.
  • A validated scale is needed to measure this knowledge.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop the Therapeutic Play Knowledge Scale for Pediatric Nurses.
  • To evaluate the scale's content validity, construct validity, and reliability.

Main Methods:

  • Methodological, cross-sectional study with 222 pediatric nurses.
  • Systematic literature review and expert consultation for item generation.
  • Content validity (I-CVI, S-CVI), construct validity (EFA, CFA), and reliability (Cronbach's alpha) were assessed.

Main Results:

  • High content validity indices (I-CVI = 0.90-0.99; S-CVI = 0.96).
  • Exploratory Factor Analysis revealed a two-factor structure (23 items) explaining 68.36% of variance.
  • Confirmatory Factor Analysis supported the two-factor structure with good model fit; excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.974).

Conclusions:

  • The Therapeutic Play Knowledge Scale for Pediatric Nurses is a valid and reliable instrument.
  • The scale can identify knowledge gaps and inform educational programs for pediatric nurses.
  • It supports evidence-based practice and quality improvement in pediatric care.
