Five new species of Phraortes Stål, 1875 from the Ryukyus, Japan (Phasmatodea: Lonchodidae)

Abstract:
Five new species of Phraortes are described from the Ryukyus, Japan. Phraortes tokaraensissp. nov. is described from Nakanoshima Island, P. kenmunsp. nov. from Amami-Oshima Island, P. okinawaensissp. nov. from Okinawa-honto Island, P. yaeyamaensissp. nov. from Ishigaki-jima Island, Iriomote-jima Island and Kuroshima Island, and P. maisansp. nov. from Yonaguni-jima Island. The morphology of females, males, and eggs of the new species is illustrated. A key to the species of Phraortes from the Ryukyus is also provided.
