The genus Empidideicus Becker, 1907 (Diptera: Mythicomyiidae) in Morocco

Twelve species of the genus Empidideicus Becker are found to occur in Morocco, including five new species: Empidideicus (Empidideicus) bartaki Evenhuis & Kettani, sp. nov., E. (E.) kettaniae Evenhuis & Maamri, sp. nov., E. (E.) michaeli Evenhuis, Kettani & Maamri, sp. nov., E. (E.) seguyi Evenhuis, sp. nov., and E. (E.) syntomus Evenhuis, sp. nov., which are described and illustrated herein. Additionally, the species E. (E.) carthaginiensis Becker (previously known only from Tunisia), E. (E.) hispanus François (previously known only from Spain), and E. (E.) pallidifacies Evenhuis, Almeida & Andrade (previously known only from Portugal) have their ranges extended to now include Morocco. A lectotype is chosen for Empidideicus croceus (Séguy) and a neotype is designated for Empidideicus (Empidideicus) carthaginiensis Becker. A key to species of the genus in northern Africa and the Iberian Peninsula is given.
