Objective:
To establish a standard procedure for the removal of peripheral arterial catheters (AC) in critically ill adult patients through the application of the best evidence for the removal of AC.
Methods:
16 best evidences were summarized through systematic retrieval and quality evaluation of the topics related to the removal of AC. 9 evidence-based quality examination standards were formulated based on clinical scenarios and professional judgment. The review indicators were implemented using the Johns Hopkins nursing evidence-based practice model in the Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Unit.
Results:
After the second round of examination, the compliance rate of review indicators was significantly higher than before (P < 0.05), and the incidence of complications in patients significantly decreased (P < 0.05).
Conclusion:
The implementation of the evidence-based practice protocol for the removal of AC in adults has standardized the procedure for AC removal and enhanced the safety of the process.
