Abstract:
Tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP) has roles in bone mineralization and the futile creatine cycle, which fuels uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1)-independent thermogenesis in adipocytes. Hussain and colleagues provide evidence for allosteric activation of TNAP by glycerol and demonstrate that this activation is necessary for both bone mineralization and thermogenesis.
