Early management of wounds is essential to prevent their progression into acute or chronic states. Conventional absorbent gauze remains the primary material used for wound care; however, its lack of inherent bioactivity restricts its therapeutic potential. This work aims to enhance the clinical applicability of conventional absorbent gauze by incorporating bioactive components through a facile modification technique. Herein, a multifunctional modified gauze (g@CMCh + 5%Fe + 1%ARAgNPs) was developed via a facile process, incorporating carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCh), Fe3+, and Asparagus racemosus (A. racemosus) aqueous extract-derived silver nanoparticles (ARAgNPs). The gauze exhibited favorable swelling behavior, antibacterial activity, hemostatic potential, cytocompatibility, and wound healing efficacy in vitro. In vivo studies further validated its ability to promote rapid hemostasis, accelerate wound closure, and support tissue regeneration. Mechanistic insights revealed suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, enhanced fibroblast and keratinocyte migration, and remodeling through re-epithelialization and collagen deposition. Overall, the modified gauze significantly improved healing by reducing bacterial burden, controlling inflammation, and stimulating tissue growth, reflecting the synergistic bioactivities of its individual components. These findings highlight its strong potential as an advanced wound dressing for clinical applications.
