A series of B(C6F5)2-derived, N-rich polycyclic species were synthesized and characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. DFT calculations reveal that the B(C6F5)2 moiety narrows the HOMO-LUMO gaps of these compounds. The N,B-fused bistriazaborole 8 exhibits strong fluorescence with a large Stokes shift, which suggests potential value as a dye scaffold.
