Gallic acid (GA) is widely used in food and pharmaceutical industries, necessitating simple and effective analytical methods for quality control. Here a ratiometric fluorescence sensor for GA based on a Europium/Gadolinium metal-organic framework (Eu₀.₇Gd₀.₃-BBDC) using 3,5-dicarboxybenzeneboronic acid (BBDC) as the ligand was reported. Under 276 nm excitation, the sensor exhibits two emission peaks at 340 nm and 618 nm. Upon addition of GA, the boronic acid groups react with GA's phenolic hydroxyls to form a boronate ester, causing the 340 nm peak to increase and the 618 nm peak to decrease. This ratiometric response enables GA detection with two linear ranges (0-10 μM and 15-80 μM) and a detection limit of 271.2 nM. Under 254 nm UV light, a clear red-to-blue color change is observed. Recovery rates range from 90.8% to 108.0%, indicating good accuracy. This work provides a promising ratiometric sensing platform for GA in food analysis.
