Purpose:
To investigate the changes in dynamic visual acuity (DVA) following Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) implantation for myopia treatment.
Methods:
This prospective cohort study included participants receiving ICL implantation at Peking Union Medical College Hospital between May 2021 and March 2022. Preoperative and postoperative data, including static visual acuity (SVA) in logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) format, refractive error, higher order aberrations, and dynamic visual acuity (DVA) at 40 and 80 degrees per second (dps), were collected preoperatively and at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months postoperatively.
Results:
The study comprised 56 eyes from 56 patients with myopia (83.9% women) who had an average age of 28.54 ± 5.23 years. Sample sizes at each time point were 56 preoperatively and at 1 week, 45 at 1 month, and 34 at 3 months. After ICL implantation, both SVA and DVA significantly improved. SVA improved from 0.01 ± 0.03 preoperatively to -0.07 ± 0.05 at 3 months postoperatively (P < .001), DVA40 improved from 0.05 ± 0.09 to -0.03 ± 0.07 (P < .001), and DVA80 improved from 0.09 ± 0.09 to -0.02 ± 0.08 (P < .001). A stepwise multiple linear regression model revealed a significant linear correlation between DVA and SVA, spherical equivalent, and trefoil aberration.
Conclusions:
Significant improvements in DVA were observed postoperatively in patients with myopia receiving ICL implantation. The improvement in DVA may be correlated with the enhancement of SVA, spherical equivalent, and higher order aberrations.
