Objectives:
This study compared the correction of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in pregnant people using ferric derisomaltose (FDM) to that with iron sucrose (IS).
Methods:
Pregnant participants between 13 and 35 weeks gestation were randomly assigned to receive intravenous FDM or IS for treatment of IDA. The primary outcome was normalization of hemoglobin. Change in hemoglobin and participant symptoms were also studied.
Results:
No significant difference was found in normalization of hemoglobin. Participants had improvement of hemoglobin and symptoms with both treatments.
Conclusions:
While the study was not adequately powered, there was no apparent difference in hemoglobin optimization for those who receive FDM or IS to treat IDA.
