Background:
This study aimed to investigate the effects of evidence-based nursing-guided optimization of disinfection supply processes on postoperative infection prevention and patient recovery after surgery for ureteral calculi.
Methods:
This single-centre retrospective study included 122 patients who underwent ureteral calculi surgery in our hospital between March 2023 and March 2025. Based on the disinfection supply management model used, we divided patients into a control group (routine disinfection supply process) and a study group (evidence-based nursing-guided process optimization). The two group were compared for surgical-related indicators, postoperative recovery outcomes, infection-related outcomes, and inflammatory markers (white blood cell count [WBC], neutrophil percentage [NE], C-reactive protein [CRP] and procalcitonin [PCT]) measured on postoperative days 1 and 5.
Results:
No statistically significant differences were observed between the two groups in baseline characteristics or operative duration (p > 0.05). Similarly, no statistically significant differences were found in surgeon experience, operative duration, intraoperative irrigation pressure, or ureteral stent placement (p > 0.05). The incidence of urinary tract infection and surgical site infection was significantly lower in the study group than in the control group (p < 0.05), while no significant differences were found in postoperative fever or urine culture positivity rates (p > 0.05). On postoperative day 1, no significant differences were identified in inflammatory markers between the two groups (p > 0.05); however, on postoperative day 5, levels of WBC, NE, CRP, and PCT were significantly lower in the study group than in the control group (p < 0.05).
Conclusions:
Evidence-based nursing-guided optimization of disinfection supply processes was associated with lower postoperative infection rates, reduced inflammatory marker levels, and improved postoperative recovery in patients with ureteral calculi, suggesting clinical value for perioperative infection prevention and control.
