Background:

Autism support needs are complex 'wicked problems' due to distributed, time- and space-varying factors.
This complexity challenges care providers' swift and decisive action.
An integrative autopoietic-enactive approach offers a framework by centering the individual's interactional social-ecological system.

Conclusions:

The identified practices offer a starting point for defining autopoietic-enactive autism healthcare.
Further consolidation is needed to establish this approach as a clinical research field.
This review provides a reference for future development and innovation in autism support.
