Abstract:
This study presents a comprehensive review of mono-styrylpyridines, a significant class of heterocyclic compounds renowned for their distinctive photophysical properties and diverse biological activities. The review systematically examines the principal synthetic strategies employed for their construction, with a particular focus on the versatility and efficiency of the Knoevenagel condensation, while also exploring alternative routes such as the Wittig and Heck reactions. Furthermore, it provides an overview of chemical transformations these compounds undergo, including photochemical dimerization processes, and their utility as ligands in coordination chemistry. This review aims to highlight the structural diversity and synthetic potential of mono-styrylpyridine compounds in the field of optoelectronics and pharmaceuticals, and to encourage further research in this interesting research area.
