The Investigation Into the Impact of Using SafePad on the Incidence Rate of Needlestick Injuries Among Iranian

Background:
This study aimed to determine the prevalence of needlestick injuries (NSIs) during the 6 months before and after the implementation of SafePad among nurses.
Methods:
Initially, 369 nurses and practical nurses participated, but after applying exclusion criteria, the final sample included 323 participants. The McNemar test, using SPSS version 21, was employed to compare the incidence of NSIs before and after the intervention.
Results:
Among the 323 participants, 63 individuals (19.5%) reported experiencing needlestick injuries in the 6 months preceding the intervention. Following the implementation of SafePad, this number decreased to 21 (6.5%), representing a 66.6% reduction in the incidence of NSIs, which was statistically significant (p < 0.001). The most common contributing factors were high workload, carelessness, and patient movement.
Conclusion:
The findings demonstrate that the implementation of SafePad effectively reduced needlestick injuries among nurses, serving as an important preventive strategy to enhance occupational safety and protect nurses from infections.
