Abstract:
This study aims to assess the impact of herbal medicines on sleep quality in postpartum mothers. All randomized clinical trials were retrieved from the Cochran library, SID, Magiran, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science databases without a time limit. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) flowchart was utilized to report the study selection process. STATA software was used to analyze the data. Out of the 463 studies retrieved, 11 were systematically reviewed. Of the 11 studies, 7 were included in the meta-analysis. The results of the meta-analysis indicated a statistically significant difference between the intervention and control groups ( P =.014), with the mean overall sleep quality score in the intervention group being lower than that of the control group (standard mean difference = -0.89) and a confidence interval of (-1.61 to -1.18), demonstrating that herbal medicines improved the sleep quality. Herbal medicines improve the sleep quality of postpartum mothers, therefore, it is recommended to use these plants in postpartum care.

Sedatives and Hypnotics Drugs: Miscellaneous Agents
Melatonin congeners like ramelteon (Rozerem) and tasimelteon (Hetlioz) selectively bind to melatonin receptors (MT1 and MT2) and thus mimic the actions of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep-wake cycles. Tasimelteon is primarily used for non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder, common in blind patients. They are also used to treat conditions like insomnia...

Sedatives and Hypnotics: Overview
Sedative-hypnotics are categorized into barbiturates, benzodiazepines (BZDs), and non-benzodiazepines or Z-drugs. These drugs work by suppressing central nervous system activity, and this suppression is dose-dependent. Older sedative medications, like barbiturates, follow a linear curve in...
