Iodolium salt catalyzed glycosylations of glycals

Abstract:
The investigation of a halogen-bonding (XB) approach to the glycosylation of glycals using an iodolium salt is presented. This approach utilizes an air and moisture stable XB catalyst and readily generates a range of glycosides under mild conditions. The C-4 configuration of the glycal dictates the reaction outcome: an equatorial C-4 substituent leads to a Ferrier rearrangement whereas an axial C-4 substituent leads to 1,2-addition.
