Coordination between primary care physicians and community pharmacists remains an unresolved issue within the Spanish National Health System. This editorial reviews the evolution of the proposals promoted by SEMERGEN and SEFAC to establish bidirectional communication channels between these two professional groups. It also examines initiatives developed in different autonomous communities and argues for the need to transform a longstanding demand into an integrated care procedure. Improving this communication would represent progress in continuity of care, patient safety, and healthcare system efficiency.
