Abstract:
Marantaceae family comprises nearly 550 species across 31 genera and, despite their diversity, their phytochemical composition remains poorly explored. Here, an LC-MS/MS-based chemical profiling and dereplication approach was applied to methanolic extracts from Stromanthe thalia, Ctenanthe setosa, Goeppertia ornata, Goeppertia insignis, Maranta leuconeura, and Goeppertia makoyana. Molecular networking through the Global Natural Products Social Molecular Networking platform enabled the putative annotation of 21 compounds, predominantly belonging to glycosylated flavonoids. Among these, 8 were assigned as C-glycosylated flavonoids, 7 as O-glycosylated flavonoids, and 3 corresponded to anthocyanins. UV-Vis absorption bands around 520 nm further supported the presence of anthocyanins. Additional QToF MS analyses corroborated the GNPS-based annotations through accurate mass measurements. Although no novel compounds were isolated or structurally elucidated, this study provides a qualitative phytochemical annotation focused on flavonoids in selected Marantaceae species, contributing to the knowledge of their chemical composition and consequently, chemotaxonomic aspects for the genus.
