Abstract:
Extract preparation is crucial to recover bioactive substances and small change in any variables that affect the extraction could have a significant impact on the entire procedure. Hence, it is vital to study the effects of all factors. Quality by Design, a novel approach that can achieve a high recovery of bioactives in extract. Here, a method for extracting baicalein from Oroxylum indicum root was established and regional differences in baicalein content were evaluated. Baicalein was quantitatively estimated using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). One variable at a time (OVAT) and response surface methodology (RSM) were used to achieve the objective. The developed extraction method recommends reflux extraction using 87.50 mL/g of 100% ethanol for 45 min at 90 °C (×1 cycle). And might be useful for future extractions. The study also revealed that samples from Itanagar contained higher levels of flavonoids, baicalein and exhibited strong antioxidant activity.
