Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal gland axis (HPAA) dysfunction is common in sick foals. An arginine vasopressin (AVP) stimulation test reveals attenuated adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol responses, indicating disease severity and guiding therapy.
