A new Polish version of the Savoring Beliefs Inventory (SBI) was developed and validated. This tool effectively measures savoring abilities, correlating positively with well-being and negatively with anxiety and depression in Polish adults.
Area of Science:
- Psychology
- Well-being Research
- Cross-cultural Psychology
Background:
- Savoring, the appreciation of positive experiences, is crucial for well-being.
- Existing measures of savoring lack a validated Polish-language version.
- Bryant's Savoring Beliefs Inventory (SBI) measures anticipating, savoring the moment, and reminiscing.
Purpose of the Study:
- To adapt and validate the Savoring Beliefs Inventory (SBI) for the Polish population.
- To ensure the Polish SBI accurately measures the same three core constructs as the original English version.
- To provide a reliable tool for studying savoring in Polish-speaking individuals.
Main Methods:
- Development of a Polish-language version of the Savoring Beliefs Inventory (SBI).
- Recruitment of 574 Polish adults via a professional survey company.
- Validation through correlational analyses with measures of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life satisfaction, meaning in life, authenticity, and well-being.
Main Results:
- Confirmatory factor analyses confirmed the three-factor structure of the Polish SBI, mirroring the original.
- Subscale scores demonstrated good reliability.
- Significant positive correlations were found between savoring subscales and well-being indicators (self-esteem, life satisfaction, meaning, authenticity).
- Significant negative correlations were observed between savoring and anxiety/depression, consistent with prior research.
Conclusions:
- The developed Polish-language Savoring Beliefs Inventory (SBI) is a valid and reliable measure.
- The scale effectively assesses the same constructs as the original English version.
- This new tool will facilitate research on savoring among Polish language speakers.
