Abstract:
In recent years, arthroscopic anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) repair techniques have been increasingly used in the treatment of chronic ankle instability. Arthroscopic approaches not only allow for the management of concomitant intra-articular pathologies but also help minimize wound-related complications associated with open surgery and improve the assessment of anatomical structures. Ankle sprains are common and tend to recur, often leading to pain and chronic lateral ankle instability. The lateral ankle ligament complex consists of the ATFL, the posterior talofibular ligament, and the calcaneofibular ligament. The primary function of the ATFL is to provide stability by preventing anterior translation and limiting internal rotation of the talus. In this report, we describe our surgical technique for arthroscopic ATFL repair without the use of anchors in patients with chronic ankle instability. By performing this technique without any implant, we aim to reduce costs and eliminate implant-related complications.
