The model organism Caenorhabditis elegans possesses genes and signaling pathways homologous to those of humans and mammals. Thus, this organism can contribute to research on the acute, chronic, and transgenerational toxicological effects of microplastics on systems such as the locomotor, neuronal, and reproductive systems.
