[Multidimensional pathways and evidence-based practice in building healthy supportive environments]

Construction of a health-supportive environment is one of the fundamental elements of the framework of the National Healthy Lifestyle Initiative that is an unavoidable shift between individual-based interventions and holistic environmental-based interventions in health promotion. The aim of the present study is to examine the theoretical development and practice of the health-supportive environments in order to define the main meanings of its three main components, which are the physical environment, the social environment, and the behavioral environment. Moreover, in accordance with the recent improvements and the most outstanding constraints, the paper suggests six multidimensional directions of collaborative implementation, which include policy direction, facility optimization, technological empowerment, market supply, family and ecological integration, and cultural promotion. These paths are intended to enable the thorough integration of policy, infrastructure, and technology by aligning the goals, pooling the resources, and coordinating the processes with the ultimate intention of achieving a sustainable, intelligent, fair, and accessible health ecosystem. This study can serve as a basis of further quantitative evaluations of health-supportive environments impact on individual health results as well as theoretical background and practical solutions to overcome the practical problems of unequal distribution of resources, poor management systems, and lack of technology application. It therefore has important ramifications to the continuous improvement of the health-promoting effectiveness of the environments and the speeding up of the realization of universal health coverage.
