Summary

Adults with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) types 2 and 3 show brain structural changes, including reduced grey matter in the left thalamus and increased sulcal depth in the left orbital sulcus. These findings suggest SMA may affect the central nervous system beyond motor neurons.
