Abstract:
Malignancies can elicit a vast array of systemic findings in patients that are not directly driven by tumor invasion. These paraneoplastic syndromes may result from mechanisms ranging from ectopic hormone expression to crossreactive immune responses. Many of these paraneoplastic syndromes can even resemble autoimmune dermatoses. Paraneoplastic dermatoses are especially common in patients with hematologic malignancies. We review the fundamental mechanisms underlying immune-mediated paraneoplastic dermatoses in patients with hematologic malignancies and describe several common paraneoplastic dermatoses including some neutrophilic dermatoses (Sweet's syndrome, pyoderma gangrenosum, subcorneal pustular dermatosis/IgA pemphigus), eosinophilic dermatoses and paraneoplastic pemphigus) that can be found in patients with hematologic malignancies.
