Tele-training Versus In-Person Training in Early Intervention for Parents of Children with Cerebral Palsy: A Pilot

Tele-training for parent-mediated intervention in children with cerebral palsy has been inadequately evaluated against conventional face-to-face training. In this pilot randomized controlled trial, 40 parents of children aged 6-60 months with cerebral palsy were randomized to tele-training via WhatsApp (n = 20) or in-person training (n = 20). After 6 months, the mean (SD) improvement in Goal Attainment Scale (GAS) T-score was comparable between the tele-training and in-person groups [24.97 (14.50) vs 28.17 (10.86); P = 0.476]. Follow-up compliance was also similar (90% vs 80%; P = 0.660). Most parents reported positive experiences with tele-training. These findings suggest that WhatsApp-based tele-training is a feasible and potentially effective alternative to conventional parent training for early intervention in children with cerebral palsy.
