Abstract:
Rhabdomyolysis is a clinical syndrome characterized by the destruction and disintegration of striated muscle due to various causes such as compression, intense exercise, high fever, medications, and inflammation. This leads to the release of intracellular contents like creatine kinase and myoglobin into the extracellular fluid and bloodstream, resulting in metabolic disturbances, acute kidney injury, and damage to other tissues and organs. Influenza virus or Legionella infection, after the pathogen invades the human body, it can cause systemic inflammatory response syndrome, toxin-mediated myocyte damage, severe hypoxia, and metabolic derangement and acidosis in the body. Legionella pneumonia combined with influenza A exacerbates the infection and collectively induces rhabdomyolysis. At present, there are no reports on rhabdomyolysis caused by coinfection of Legionella and influenza A virus. In this case, we focus on introducing a case of influenza A combined with severe Legionella pneumonia, which eventually developed into rhabdomyolysis and multiple organ dysfunction, thereby filling the gap in this field.
