Abstract:
Diagnostic delay is common in hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), yet the influence of socioeconomic status remains poorly understood. In this cross-sectional study of patients with HS enrolled in a single-institution longitudinal cohort, time to diagnosis was 53% shorter among patients with less than a bachelor's degree and 73.1% longer among those living in nonmetropolitan or smaller metropolitan areas. Time to diagnosis was not associated with Hurley stage. Larger studies are needed to clarify socioeconomic drivers of delayed HS diagnosis and disease outcomes.
