To prevent the spontaneous combustion of coal caused by heat accumulation from exothermic oxidation in the goaf, a water-absorbing gel was prepared using sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. The gel was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) to analyze its functional groups, crystal structure, and surface morphology. The synthesized gel was then integrated into a cement-sand mixture along with nanosilica, bentonite, and boric acid to fabricate a novel composite cement that exhibits both flame-retardant and support capabilities. Key parameters of the resulting material, including its thermal stability, flame retardancy, and compressive strength, were systematically evaluated. Furthermore, molecular dynamics simulations were employed to elucidate the underlying flame-retardant mechanism.
