The relationship between stereotypical movement disorder and neuroinflammation

Neuroinflammation, indicated by elevated interleukin-1β and interleukin-6, is linked to stereotypic movement disorder (SMD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Higher cytokine levels correlate with increased stereotypy severity in these neurodevelopmental conditions.

- This study is the first to explore these neuroinflammatory markers in primary SMD, highlighting the need for further research with larger cohorts and broader inflammatory assessments.
