Abstract:
In recent years, the etiological mechanisms of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) have gradually become a focal point of academic research. Previous studies have shown that poor sitting posture can induce morphological changes in the coccyx, while recent research indicated a significant difference in coccygeal morphology between AIS patients and individuals without scoliosis. This suggests that coccygeal morphological features may serve as a crucial link in explaining the correlation between sitting posture and AIS. This review recent advances regarding the reciprocal interactions among AIS, sitting posture, and coccygeal morphology, pointing out that postural-induced changes in coccygeal morphology may be one of the mechanisms through which sitting posture influences the onset and development of AIS. Future research could leverage high-precision 3D imaging and biomechanical modeling to quantitatively analyze the association between coccygeal morphological features in the sitting position and the pathogenesis of AIS, thereby providing a theoretical basis for ergonomic seat design and AIS prevention strategies based on postural intervention.
