66W The Army Nurse Midwife: Beyond Birth and Babies
Abstract:
The Army 66W Area of Concentration (AOC) corresponds to the role of the certified nurse-midwife. The nurse-midwife serves as an independent practitioner in the treatment of women throughout their lifespan. Certified nurse-midwives are in a unique position to provide preventive healthcare, as well as prenatal and postnatal care. They are a force multiplier serving in numerous settings to include inpatient, outpatient and operational. Their unique skill set provides them with tools to offer holistic care, manage trauma, and assist in an operating room as well as serve in various leadership positions. The nurse-midwife is integral to the health and readiness of the Army Service Members and families.
