Newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation can cause uncommon splenic and renal infarctions. This case highlights the importance of considering these visceral embolic events in patients with unexplained abdominal pain and elevated lactate dehydrogenase (LDH).
Area of Science:
- Internal Medicine
- Cardiology
- Radiology
Background:
- Renal and splenic infarctions are rare causes of abdominal pain.
- Atrial fibrillation is a known cause of systemic embolization.
- Simultaneous renal and splenic infarctions with new-onset atrial fibrillation are seldom reported.
