A flash-heating-assisted two-step strategy is developed to construct self-supported NiFe nanosheet arrays on Ni foam for alkaline oxygen evolution. The electrode requires 233 and 255 mV at 100 and 400 mA cm-2, operates for 200 h, and resists start/stop perturbation, owing to rapid charge transfer and operando Ni(Fe)OOH reconstruction kinetics.
