Reversible intracranial hypertension induced by unruptured arteriovenous malformation: A case report

Background:
Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) pose a risk of hemorrhage when venous walls are compromised; however, unruptured cases often remain asymptomatic.
Case Description:
This case report explores the rare presentation of intracranial hypertension (IH) caused by an unruptured Spetzler-Martin Grade 1 AVM with venous drainage to the superior sagittal sinus and the Sylvian venous system. The patient initially presented with headaches and blurred vision, leading to imaging that revealed an underlying AVM. These symptoms of IH resolved promptly after surgical resection of the AVM.
Conclusion:
The visual concerns emphasize the importance of prompt interdisciplinary care for early detection, etiology determination, and personalized treatment. The unclear pathophysiology of AVM-induced IH warrants further investigation to enhance understanding and guide tailored treatment strategies.
