An Fe-CdS@PDA core-shell photocatalyst enables photocatalytic diketone synthesis via synergistic bulk doping and surface engineering. DFT calculations reveal an optimised adsorption-desorption equilibrium and a lowered apparent barrier for the Michael addition, achieving up to 96% yield with good recyclability and broad substrate tolerance.
