Abstract:
Forgotten ureteral stents may lead to severe complications such as encrustation, infection, obstruction, and stone formation, especially when retained beyond 12 weeks. Dual forgotten stents in the same renal system managed in a single operative session are rare. A 51-year-old male with no urinary symptoms was incidentally found to have two forgotten left DJ (Double J) stents placed in 2021 and 2024. CT showed encrustation with multiple renal and ureteric stones. Renal function was preserved. A single-session tri-modality approach-cystolithotripsy, ureteroscopic lithotripsy, and lower-pole percutaneous nephrolithotomy-resulted in complete stent removal. A new stent was placed with planned second-stage check RIRS. Severe dual-stent encrustation can be treated safely using coordinated multimodality endourology.
