Rehabilitation of Failing Dentition with Implant Assisted Overdentures: A Case Report
Abstract:
This case report describes the prosthodontic rehabilitation of a 53-year-old male with failing dentition using a maxillary implant-assisted overdenture (IOD). Following full dental clearance and immediate complete denture provision, a total of six implants were placed in the maxilla with the aid of digital planning utilising a dual-scan CBCT technique and a 3D-printed surgical guide. The maxillary IOD incorporated an open-palate horseshoe design with metal reinforcement and Novaloc stud attachments, providing improved retention and reduced palatal coverage. At two-year follow-up, all implants were functional with improved patient-reported outcomes, supporting maxillary IODs as an effective rehabilitation strategy aligned with the current consensus guidelines.
