To establish the entrustable professional activities (EPAs) for stomatological residents.

Research experts were recruited from professors of stomatology and medical education. The EPAs index was designed based on a scoping review and clinical practice on the basis of the requirements of resident training program. The Delphi method was used to conduct two rounds of expert consultations among 30 experts over the period from Jan 2023 to Sep 2023 to confirm the EPAs index for stomatological residents.

Two rounds of consulting experts positive coefficient were 100% and the authority coefficient Kendall 0.319 and 0.339, respectively (P < 0.05). The establishment index of EPAs for stomatological residents comprised 16 indices, in which the whole average scores of importance, familiarity, observability, authenticity, universality and competencies were greater than 3.5 and the variable coefficient were all less than 0.25. Meanwhile, the expected entrustable levels of each indicator in different study stages were elucidated.

The index of EPAs were preliminary constructed for stomatological residents; the details are preliminary consensus-based and require further validation to inform future competency-based assessment of stomatological residents.
