    Summary

    A rare complete, closed trapezium dislocation was successfully treated with open reposition and Kirschner wire fixation. This surgical approach prevented avascular necrosis and restored normal thumb function long-term.

    Background:

    • Trapezium dislocations are uncommon hand injuries.
    • Complete, closed dislocations require prompt and effective management.

    Observation:

    • A case of complete, closed dislocation of the trapezium was presented.
    • The injury was treated via open reposition and fixation using two Kirschner wires.

    Findings:

    • No avascular necrosis was observed post-treatment.
    • At two and a half years, the patient reported no subjective complaints.
    • Normal thumb mobility, strength, and absence of radiological signs of arthrosis were noted.

    Implications:

    • Open reposition and Kirschner wire fixation is an effective treatment for complete trapezium dislocation.
    • This surgical method can lead to excellent long-term functional outcomes.
    • Early intervention may prevent complications like avascular necrosis and arthrosis.
