Achieving age-friendly cancer care through the NICHE practice model
1NICHE Program Education Consultant and Leadership Training Program Mentor, NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, 380 Second Avenue, Suite 306, New York, NY, 10010, United States.
Abstract:
More than 50% of cancers occur in adults aged 70 years and older, and this population accounts for 60% of all cancer deaths. Cancer care for older adults is complex and influenced by comorbidities, age-related physiologic changes, social needs, and cognitive or functional limitations. This NICHE column addresses the alignment of the NICHE practice model and resources to advance evidence-based care of older adults with cancer in conjunction with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Age-Friendly 4Ms framework and international professional oncology nursing practice standards.
