General polarization ray-tracing algorithm for arbitrarily-oriented lossy bianisotropic metamaterials with
None:
A generalized polarization ray-tracing algorithm is proposed for arbitrary linear homogeneous lossy bianisotropic metamaterials with various types of meta-boundaries. It is formulated based on the unified global coordinate system rather than based on the various boundary coordinate systems. The incident light rays can be with arbitrary polarization states and propagation directions, and the surfaces of the lossy bianisotropic metamaterials can be arbitrarily oriented and shaped. The directions of the principal axes of the constitutive tensors and the surface conductivity tensors can be arbitrarily rotated, and the tensor elements can be assigned with arbitrary complex values. A challenging example involving two triangular prisms made of right-handed and left-handed lossy bianisotropic metamaterials together with three different bianisotropic meta-boundaries, respectively, is presented to validate the proposed algorithm. The proposed algorithm is applicable for the design of optical elements and systems made of complex bianisotropic materials and with arbitrary shapes.
