All-fiberized, dual-wavelength, nanosecond-pulsed ytterbium laser system
Abstract:
We demonstrate a fully fiberized, linearly polarized ytterbium-doped master-oscillator power-amplifier system seeded by a spectrally sliced superluminescent laser diode to enable dual-wavelength operation. Pulses are generated using an electro-optical modulator driven by an arbitrary waveform generator, providing a high degree of flexibility in pulse characteristics. The spectral peak intensities and pulse peak powers of the two wavelengths are investigated in detail. Using 10-ns pulses at 50 kHz, the system delivers pulse peak powers of 4.1 kW at 1030 nm and 9.1 kW at 1040 nm without stimulated Brillouin scattering under equalized spectral peak intensity operation. Under comparable pulse peak power conditions, pulse peak powers of 8.6 kW and 9.9 kW are achieved, revealing a trade-off between equalizing spectral peak intensity and pulse peak power. The system offers simple wavelength reconfigurability via spectral slicing and exhibits strong power scaling potential owing to the incoherent seed source.
