Abstract:
Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP-NENs), which encompass well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) and poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs), are a clinically and pathologically heterogeneous group of diseases with an increasing incidence, presenting significant challenges in diagnosis and treatment. This Special Collection brings together studies examining GEP-NEN management from four distinct perspectives: clinicopathological prognostic factors, sex-related survival differences, comparative real-world use and outcomes of long-acting somatostatin analogs, and tumor burden assessment using somatostatin receptor-based imaging. This editorial connects the studies in the collection, discussing the evolving field toward risk-adapted and personalized management of GEP-NENs, ie., a prognostic approach that integrates tumor biology with patient characteristics.
