The interrelationship between sleep quality and the triglyceride-glucose index in adults: Evidence from a Chinese

Aims:
The present study was designed to examine the interrelationship between sleep quality and the triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) among Chinese adults.
Methods:
Study participants came from baseline survey of Regional Ethnic Cohort Study (RECS) conducted in northwest China. Logistic regression model was applied to assess the interrelationship between sleep quality and TyG index. Three predictive models were established to explore their discriminate ability for each outcome. The robustness of results of interest was further examined through subgroup and sensitivity analyses.
Results:
After controlling for covariates, the odds of poor sleep quality were higher among participants in Q3 group of TyG index than those in Q1 group (OR = 1.345, 95% CI: 1.185-1.526). The participants in Q3 of sleep quality (OR = 1.334, 95%CI:1.175-1.515) had significantly higher odds of elevated high TyG than those in Q1 group. The model using sleep quality to discriminate high TyG appeared to perform better (AUC = 0.831,95%CI:0.823-0.840) than those using TyG to discriminate poor sleep quality (AUC = 0.755, 95%CI:0.745-0.765).
Conclusion:
A notable interrelationship is observed between sleep quality and the TyG index, with sleep quality demonstrating stronger discriminatory power in identifying individuals with elevated risk of IR. Sleep characteristics may serve as important influencing factors for IR, which holds important public health implications for the management of metabolic disorders.
