Aims:
To develop and validate a disease-specific discharge readiness scale for patients undergoing the first allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT).
Background:
Patients undergoing allo-HSCT face unique postdischarge challenges, but no disease-specific assessment tool exists to guide nursing management.
Methods:
A cross-sectional study was conducted with 163 patients. Scale development included literature review, expert consultation, and psychometric testing (item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and reliability testing).
Results:
The final 24-item scale comprised four dimensions: Physiological Stability; Psychological Competence; Information Knowledge and Coping Ability; and Social Support. The scale demonstrated excellent psychometric properties, with a scale-level content validity index of 0.92, explaining 83.488% of the total variance, a Cronbach's α of 0.858, and a test-retest reliability coefficient of 0.965.
Conclusions:
The scale is a reliable and valid tool for assessing discharge readiness in this patient group.
Implications For Nursing Management:
This scale enables nursing managers to identify patients at risk, allocate resources effectively, and deliver targeted discharge interventions to improve postdischarge outcomes.
