Fluoroquinolones are one of the cornerstones of antibiotic therapy and frequently become the only viable oral option for safe hospital discharge. However, escalating black box warnings often lead healthcare providers to unnecessarily avoid these agents. While a significant portion of ciprofloxacin side effects are associated with prolonged exposure, it remains one of the safest choices within its class. We examine pharmacologic and real-world data to understand the real aortic dilation risk. Aligning evidence with clinical practice may reduce unnecessary hospitalization, avoid prolonged intravenous therapy, and facilitate safer transitions to oral antibiotics.
