Abstract:
Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) to screen high-risk individuals has proven effective in the reduction of lung-cancer (LC) specific mortality. Nevertheless, much of the evidence of the implementation of LDCT LC screening programs in Spain and elsewhere have arisen from large, multicenter projects. We aimed at describing the experience, including facilitators and barriers, of the implementation and first round of the LC screening program at the Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya (HUGC) (Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain). Multidisciplinarity of the research group and completeness and accuracy of the medical records to identify individuals at high risk have proven as facilitators of the program. Areas of improvement include a better coordination with the external partner to process liquid biopsy tests and the implementation of a more structured smoking cessation program.
